About the Illustrator

Robert Hochgertel

Robert Hochgertel has been a professional artist for more than 25 years, working as a painter, illustrator and designer.  He began his career in 1984 while still in college. He tackled freelance design, illustration and mural projects for clients in and around the city of Philadelphia to help pay for his education. Bob established a small but reliable pool of clients while still in school that enabled him to formally start his own company immediately after he graduated from the Philadelphia College of Art with a BFA in 1985.

He has worked for a variety of national and international clients in the advertising, entertainment and publishing. His work has also been exhibited in a variety of galleries, schools and museums across the country. He is an associate professor at the Pennsylvania College of Art & Design where he also serves as the Illustration Department Chairman.

He currently lives in a nearby suburb of Philadelphia with his wife, Linda, and his daughters, Alexis and Ainsley, all of whom are artists as well. Robert still considers the city his home, and embraced the chance to illustrate this book, declaring it a “labor of love.”
